Abbie Keller thought that Richard Bartholemew Benson would be her forever. Sure, she had to change a few things about herself to make him happy, like dyeing her hair, dressing more conservatively, and finding golf enjoyable, but Abbie was sure that at the end of it all, she would be wearing his grandmother’s engagement ring on her finger.
That is, until Richard leaves her crying outside her apartment wearing a Halloween costume because she’s “just not serious enough”—especially now that Richard is set on becoming a partner at his law firm.
So Abbie does what every girl does when she’s been broken up with: she calls her friends, gets drunk, dyes her hair, and formulates a plan for revenge that includes dating Richard’s incredibly hot and charming boss, Damien Martinez, to embarrass Richard at the company Christmas party.
